HOOSIER STAR IS BACK!!! Auditions for Hoosier Star 2008, a benefit for the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, will be Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16 at La Porte Little Theatre, 218 A. Street, La Porte. Five judges will select 12 finalists, six in the youth division (17 & under) and six in the adult division (18 & over). The winners will perform at the La Porte Civic Auditorium, 1001 Ridge Street, La Porte, on Saturday, June 21, 2008 with the LCSO orchestra under the direction music director and conductor Philip Bauman. After each song, six on-stage commentators will share their thoughts about the performer’s stage presence, vocal range, style and talent. Joe Mellen of Michigan City will be the Master of Ceremonies. The audience will have the final say-so by voting for the Hoosier Star winners. The three top finishers in the adult division will receive cash prizes - - $1,000, first place; $750, second place; and $500, third place. The three top winners in the youth division will receive cash prizes- $500, first place; $400 second place; and $300 for third place.

Vocalists may choose to sing classical, Broadway music, country, gospel, pop, rock, jazz, opera, blues etc. The Hoosier Star contest is open to amateur soloists only, no duets or group performances. For auditions, applicants may provide their own accompanist, CD or karaoke machine, or sing a cappella. In addition, a piano accompanist will be provided.

Applicants must live in one of the following counties: La Porte, Porter, Lake, St. Joseph, Starke, Pulaski, Jasper and Marshall in Indiana or Berrien County, Michigan.
