Just in time for a romantic Valentine’s Day excursion, enjoy an afternoon of intriguing chamber music in the LaPorte County Symphony’s February chamber music concert “Romantic Impressions.”

What better way to become familiar with the leading members of the symphony than through the personal expression of music in an intimate setting as they present masterworks for harp, strings and brass. Principal harpist, Meg Rodgers will be the featured soloist.

Often layered within the texture of the orchestra, the harp is not often featured as a soloist in a symphonic composition. This special concert offers the opportunity to get up close and personal with this alluring instrument in a featured setting. The featured harp work with be Debussay’s Danses sacrée et profane for harp and string quartet.

In addition to harp music, the First Presbyterian Church of Michigan City will echo with the resounding brass selections performed by the LCSO Brass Quintet. Our sonorous String Quartet will dazzle audience members with their passion and intensity in an afternoon of enlightening chamber music that is sure to satisfy the most discriminating listener and the most romantic at heart.

Meg Rodgers started piano lessons at the age of 4, flute lessons at 9 years, harp lessons at 13 and trombone at 14.  She continued to study all of these instruments at the collegiate level.  After deciding on harp as her major, Meg went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Harp Performance from DePauw University with Harriet Moore and a Master’s Degree in Harp Performance from Northwestern University with Elizabeth Cifani.  She also studied in Vienna, Austria with Adhelaide Blovsky-Miller, Principal Harpist for the Vienna State Opera.

Currently, Meg performs with the La Porte County Symphony, the South Bend Symphony, the Holland (MI) Symphony, and the Rockford (IL) Symphony.  She is active as a freelance harpist in Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois (known for playing Metallica upon request) and as a teacher in Southwest Michigan.  Meg is also working on her first CD and plans to have it completed this summer.
