HandEducation Concerts are attended by almost 7,000 students from 35 area schools each year. The Children's Cncert is presented at the Civic Auditorium in LaPorte. The highly interactive and imaginative programs are designed to introduce the young listener to world of symphonic performance.

HandDocents teach about, create interest in, and develop appreciation for the Orchestra and its repertoire in order to make the concert experience more meaningful to the students.

Our Docent Program conducts student orientation sessions in area schools in advance of our Children's Concerts, making a significant impact on the learning experience provided by these concerts. Docents, accompanied by an orchestra musician, review facts about the orchestra, share biographical information and musical excerpts relating to the upcoming program, and also discuss concert etiquette with the students.

HandMore Volunteers are needed. Time commitment is minimal, and would involve one or two training sessions, some individual preparation, and one classroom visit.  If you are interested in participating, contact the symphony office at 219.325.666 or email JoFran Bendix.
