Audition Requirements

2011 - 2012 Audition Information

Open Positions:

Asst. Principal Bass
Section First Violin
Section Second Violin
Section Viola

Mileage is paid

Season Student Apprentices (2011-12 School Year)
All Positions are paid per service

Requirements (A List)

All applicants (excluding vocalists) need to prepare a solo work (4-6')

Be prepared to show contrasting styles within the work

The solo does not need to be accompanied

All applicants need to prepare 2-3 short orchestral excerpts

All applicants will sight read

Please bring a musical resume or list of your orchestral experience

Vocalists should bring 3 - 4 works which include:

Popular/Broadway (English Text)

Operatic Aria

Student Apprentice Applicants

In addition to the "A" list of requirements:

Prepare scales up to 4 flats and sharps

1 octave for winds and brass

2 octaves for strings

Violin, Viola, and Cello should prepare at least one 3 octave scale

Strings Auditioning for Titled Chair

Those auditioning for Concertmaster, Principal, Associate Principal, Assistant Principal positons must also prepare in addtion to the "A" list of requirements:

Violin/Cello: a movement from an Unaccompanied Bach work

All applicants will be asked to play your choice of 4-5 excerpts (total) from standard orchestra repertoire.
